I was able to track my spending more efficiently, I was able to make more significant debt payments, I hit my goal of saving my first $1,000, I successfully saved more money and went on my first all-cash paid vacation back in May of this year, and so much more! When I started using cash envelopes, magical things began to happen. Cash spending was the missing piece that I needed to make my budget work for me in ways I never imagined. Assemble your financial statements, determine your monthly income and figure out what you spend your money on. Before you know how much money you should place into each envelope, you must create a monthly budget. Most of the steps for how to save money with envelopes are pretty simple. The goal is to get better at knowing what your budgeting thresholds are and to live within your means. There’s no wiggle room and no transferring money from one envelope to the other. When the money in that envelope is depleted, you’re done spending it on that category for the month. Essentially, you put money in different envelopes that correlate to categories you spend your money on, such as groceries, rent or entertainment.
